Microsoft buys into mobile search

According to CNET’s news.com, Microsoft has just acquired MotionBridge. MotionBridge is a company that specializes in mobile search. According to the MSN corporate vice president, Christopher Payne, Microsoft will be integrating this search technology into Microsoft?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s Windows Live services. This announcement comes right after the CES expo where Google and Yahoo made it clear that they will have mobile phone search capabilities.

This is a natural step for Microsoft, as they try to gain some momentum with their new web based services as well as their search engine. Microsoft has clearly stated that it plans to continue to offer services to current MotionBridge clients, such as Sprint Nextel, O2, and Orange. What this means is that the GYM gang (Google, Yahoo, Microsoft) thinks that mobile search is going to be a rising star. Even more validation to mobile search is the announcement from search engine marketing firm, iCrossing that they have launched a mobile marketing unit, mCrossing.

With these developments, it sounds like we will be seeing some exciting things in the mobile search space this year!
