Keith Olbermann and Twitter: Can His Job Be Saved?

What does an outspoken, lively, but controversial political talk show figure do when his radio program is suspended because of his political choices?

He tweets about it, of course!

Keith Olbermann’s Twitter account may help save his job (not likely), and increase his popularity. The MSNBC talk show host was suspended from the station after he was found to have financially supported the Democratic party candidates in last weeks elections.

Olbermann did not deny his political mingling, and despite MSNBC’s repeated requests for him to stop his financial support, he continued and refused to apologize for violating the company’s policy on political donations. After Olbermann’s blatant stand for his political choices, his show was suspended indefinitely. Olbermann was not pleased.

So in the heat of battle, Olbermann turned to the Twitter social platform to vent, and it seems to be working quite well for him. Twitter is a great platform for getting a message out to the masses as quick as possible, and that’s exactly what Olbermann did. His Twitter followers immediately began a campaign to save his show with a petition, and even started a new group dubbed “Team Keith Olbermann,” which got 275,000 signatures in two days.

Whether or not all of this will matter to MSNBC remains to be seen as things unfold. Even if things are not favorable, Olbermann once again has managed to stay true to his controversial nature as he used the power of Twitter to shed light on his treatment from the folks at MSNBC. He has certainly spent a great deal of time in recent years developing and maintaining a Twitter relationship with the community. Controversial or not, he likely has received even more attention now, and he successfully used a social networking platform to do it. Despite the talk show suspension, it doesn’t look like we’ve seen the last of Mr. Keith Olbermann.
