Leveraging Wikipedia
Wikipedia is a collaboratively built encyclopedia that has evolved into a great resource if you are looking for information on just about anything. Because of its popularity and the sheer number of people that use Wikipedia, it is known as an authority site and can be a great resource for search engine optimization. It can be used as a great source for link popularity and website visitors if it is used properly.
Wikipedia is a collaborative built resource where anyone can add or edit information on any topic. There are two main things you can add or edit on each resource page, the first is content and the second is links to other sites. If you feel that you can provide valuable content to any one of those resource pages without being bias you should add it. If you can add valuable links to other sites without being bias you should also add them.
So how does his help with search engine optimization? If you have any links from Wikipedia going to your website, it will help with your search engine rankings. In many cases pages on Wikipedia are ranked for terms that you may want your website to be ranked for. By having links on these pages it will help increase your rankings because they are considered related links.
Although this may seem like any easy way to get related links, it is not. Other people can also make edits to any page as well, which means they can remove your content and remove your links. This is part of the peer revision in addition to some automatic spam prevention measures that Wikipedia has in place. If you are just looking to use Wikipedia as a tool to help increase your rankings, you might not succeed but if you can provide useful information to visitors, it can be just another way to help your search engine optimization efforts.
