Timeline for Pages: What You Need to Know

During Facebook’s first Marketing Conference in New York last Wednesday, the social network giant announced the upcoming Timeline for Pages. While this change can definitely shake things up for page owners, brands still have until March 30 to tweak their content and prepare for the new format.

Listed below are six Timeline changes that every marketer should know and take advantage of:

Timeline Format

Timeline for Pages is the same with the user profile. It has a cover photo at the top of the page, the page is divided into two columns, and the dividing line represents a timeline. It’s ideal in outlining your business’ achievements and the milestones it was able to achieve. The new format will help construct a narrative for your customers in the most visually appealing way possible.

Landing Page

The customizable landing page has been removed from the new page format. That’s why page owners must pay attention on what content appears above the fold, as this will create a first impression to your visitors.

Tab Visibility

Other than the landing page, the Timeline no longer have the left-side panel which includes the tabs. Thus, the application will be displayed in rectangular panels found under the cover photo. However, only three panels will be visible above the fold, which means that page owners must take into consideration which tabs to display.

Tab Content and Application

Facebook replaced its existing Page tab configuration of 520-pixel width to 810 pixels. As a result, the outdated tab content will be posted at the center of the resized tab. Therefore, marketers must update the tab images visible above the fold, because this is the content that users will initially see.

Featured Content

The good thing about Timeline for Pages is that brands can pin a particular post at the top of their timeline. It’s the same thing as making a sticky blog post to retain it at the top of the page. Brands can only pin a single content at a time, and it will only stay above the fold for seven days. The pinned content will also appear within its chronological place in the Timeline. This feature is ideal when highlighting new or interesting content like promotional ads.

Private Message on Page

Sending and receiving private messages from fans is the best feature that Timeline for Pages has by the longest mile. This will enable a much personal consumer interaction, and will be useful for extended customer inquiries.

Facebook’s Timeline for Pages offers new ways for businesses to represent their brand online. Hence, they should rethink their Facebook marketing strategies to make use of the new page format’s full potential.
