The hip-hop mogul and Grammy-winning producer, Jermaine Dupri, has had great success with social networking. With that success, he has gone on to recently launch his own social networking site, Global14.com. The new social site will be a place where fans can interact with one another and share fashion advice, music news and connect on Dupri’s blog at the social site. Jermaine aims to make the site all-encompassing also by offering categories in cars, gadgets, sports, video-gaming, how-to guides on uploading music and a section for finding and discussing music videos, current and past.
The Idea
Dupri’s idea for a social site came after his success in helping then-girlfriend Janet Jackson with an online contest to promote her 2006 album, 20 Y.O. He sparked a fan-driven contest where he asked fans to help design an album cover for the new release. The response was very overwhelming, and Jermaine Dupri saw how viral it was for a project when fans became involved with its design and release. The experience with using social sites in this way is what has inspired him to launch his own social networking service.
The Jermaine Difference
Dupri has a goal for the new site to become more personal than other social sites, like Facebook.com. He feels that since he is able to connect in a more personal way with the users, he is going to be able to develop a more valuable site than others where users may not feel that they have something in common with the site owner.
Dupri’s connection and influence with songwriters, artists, producers and other industry creators is what he feels will make his site at Global14.com a success. The site which now has over 11,000 registered members, also offers YouTube access and options to connect to other sites like Twitter and Facebook.

Any social networking site has a chance to make an impact. Well, competing with Facebook is impossible but Dupri’s numbers are already impressive…
