With millions of videos being uploaded on YouTube, looking for the best clip can be a daunting task. Good thing, the folks at YouTube worked with the Google Research guys to come up with a video discovery experiment called the YouTube Slam. With this experiment, viewers can have the chance to find the next singing sensation, or the best viral video ever uploaded in the history of YouTube.

How YouTube Slam Works

Each week, YouTube will release a crop of videos that will battle head-to-head in various categories or “Slams”; then users will vote on which clip is the best. As of the moment, there are five Slams on the list: Comedy, Cute, Bizarre, Dance and Music Slams.

Users are also encouraged to participate in YouTube Slams by earning points for predicting the crowd’s favorite. By the end of the week, a user can see his or her points stack up against other viewers.

User Generated Feedback

It’s obvious that what YouTube wants from this experiment is user generated feedback. Through this Slam, the people behind the video-sharing site will have a grasp on the type of content that users would want to view. Additionally, this will also increase user interaction between channels with more votes, comments and subscribers.

The Search for Fame

The videos that will get the most number of votes will be featured in each Slam’s leader board. In turn, the featured clip will have more views and will become inevitably viral. This is one thing that users who would want to be the next YouTube sensation would analyze.

Consider the type of videos that gets the most votes, and deliver your own clip based on user interaction. That way, you have a fair chance of becoming the next big thing on YouTube.

Questionable Videos

Despite being described as a “place for discovering talented amateur singers, the most adorable clips and the craziest videos on YouTube,” there are still questionable videos that appear on YouTube Slam. Good thing, the video-sharing site addresses this issue with a “Flag as inappropriate” button found next to “Vote for Me”. Moreover, the video pool for each category will be repopulated each week, so clips with racial slurs or copyright infringement might be weeded out during the process. Nevertheless, YouTube Slam is definitely one way of hooking users with more viral clips.

If you want to have a daily dose of the most talented, adorable and hilarious YouTube videos, subscribe now to any YouTube Slam channels that you like and play. Who knows, you might find the next big thing.
