Do you know which country has the most active users of social networking sites than anyone else in the world? This would include the most amount of hours that the users spend online, surfing the web, in addition to interacting on social sites.
Would you have guessed the United States? If you did, you would be incorrect. The number one country with the most users who spend the most amount of time online is Russia.
In Russia, users spend approximately 9.8 hours apiece online accessing and interacting on sites like Facebook, Twitter, Hi5, MySpace, Tagged and Orkut. Next in line in this industrious list would be Israel where users spend about 9.2 hours on average on those sites. Turkey follows closely behind with 7.6 average daily hours with the United Kingdom following even closer with 7.3 hours per day spent online among their citizens.
This curious study was conducted by a team of researchers at DigitalStrategyConsulting.com and even highlighted the median age (15 years old) and pointed out that the averages compiled for the study were per person, not household or a collective group of people.
This is a curious study because it does in fact dispel some myths that many people have preconceived about the Internet and who its active users may be. Web users access the Internet for a variety of reasons, of course, but social networking sites would certainly be classified in the “personal” category first before it would be considered a business dealing.
It’s interesting also to note that the study provided by the consulting firm, showed the United States and China do not even appear on the list! The citizens in China and the United States actually use social networking sites far less than the population does in Canada, Finland and even in Spain.
