Viral Marketing: What's Hot and What's Not
We at Pronet are big fans of viral marketing. Both when it comes to link building and when it comes to buzz creation. But not all methods of viral marketing are good and not all methods are equally successful. Here's a look at what to think about and what to look for when creating your next viral marketing campaign.
According to research from eMarketer creating cool microsites is the best method for viral marketing, followed by online games/quizzes/polls, and then video clips. 37% of experienced marketers said that the first method was most successful for them, 1 in 3 had success with the second method, and 29% found video clips to be useful in their campaigns.

But of course the chart above only tells half the story. Even given the satisfaction rates for the various types of campaigns, the report was hesitant to recommend using just one kind of campaign, instead recommended using different components in conjunction with each other to get the best results. For example, as Hallerman mentioned,
Reliance on viral video, rather than making it just one element for getting the message out, will succeed only in rare cases.
