vFlyer And The Mobile Marketplace
As mobile devices become more and more extensive and as surfing the internet on these devices approaches the ease of use of the PC, the cell phone (whether it be a Blackberry, an iPhone, or a Windows Mobile Smartphone) will take a central place in the users' hands between a desktop and a laptop. And as the mobile internet user base grows, so does the mobile marketplace.
To shed more light on the state of the mobile web, take a look at the growth in data service usage for the largest mobile phone service providers in America. Sprint Nextel, Cingular Wireless, T-Mobile, and Verizon Wireless generated over $6.3 billion in revenues solely from wireless data usage in the first 6 months of 2006. Seeing this huge jump in mobile web usage, vFlyer's announcement that they will be extending their online classifieds creation and distribution system to mobile devices--through "Mobile Flyers and SMS/Text Messaging"-- makes perfect sense.
Not only can you browse vFlyer via mobile devices, you can also publish your own classifieds and share them with others directly from your phone.

This may be most helpful for their successful real estate vertical, as this new mobile feature makes it easy to send and receive updates and ads on the go, and broadens the reach of the ads.

This kind of a service naturally lends itself to marketing in a craigslist-fashion and will be better suited to some publishers more than others.

I wonder if someone could do a mash-up with Craigslist website maps like mine at www.aMillionPlaces.com and the mobile stuff you are talking about here. That way, when you movein and out of a craigslist "market" area (served by a particular CL website) you would see the things available in your area? Just a thought, Jamie
