Social networking is quite popular, and you would think that it actively exists universally. Many businesses have realized the power of social media and networking, and have harnessed that power to work in their respective industries and areas of business concentration. But no matter how popular it is and despite its phenomenal growth, social networking still captures the attention of businesses everyday as a way to further their marketing efforts.

Just recently, a study was conducted that showed that the Caribbean population had over 3.9 million Facebook users out of its population of over 41 million residents. This study showed the local Caribbean businesses the sales potential that exists among this group and the opportunities for them to penetrate that segment of the population.

Mr. D.J. Newson, a professional in the social network strategies industry, pointed out that the Caribbean businesses could no longer afford to under-utilize the Internet as a forcible sales and marketing tool. Not only could the social media exposure generate potential for their companies, but it could also help them to form new business partnerships and stay ahead of their competitors.

As a result of the study, Caribbean businesses are making a concerted effort to take full advantage of the opportunities that exist in social networking. Mr. Newson has also been an adviser to some of the local businesses, emphasizing the importance of satisfied customers and its connection to referral marketing from those same customers.

Often, part of the reason why many businesses are slower to adapt to social media exposure is the unavailability of evidence to prove that any efforts towards a campaign is worthwhile. It’s a chicken-and-egg theory that is only dispelled through actual application. However, businesses can benefit at a slower rate by applying techniques one at a time to gauge results. After a while, the benefits become clearer and they can implement even more applications.
