Sleeping Comcast technician gets fired

Last week I posted about a Comcast technician who fell asleep on someone's couch during a house call. David Dalka, a reader of Pronet Advertising, was talking with Comcast tech support about a problem he was having with his TV and told them about the video. With the video getting on digg and tons of people blogging on it, it created a lot of buzz which eventually got the guy fired according to Forbes.

Comcast Corp. has fired an employee for sleeping on a customer's couch during a house call after video of the incident became a minor Internet sensation.

Philadelphia-based Comcast also said in a statement that it had apologized to customer Brian Finkelstein of Washington, D.C., for the "unsatisfactory customer experience."

Isn't it amazing what negative buzz can do?

Perhaps rather than punishing their employees, Comcast could consider improving their response time to technicians AND customers alike. If memory serves, the technician was put on hold for over an hour... an experience I, as a customer, have had each and every time I contact the company - their response time is terrible and enough to bring a person to tears (apparently even their own staff doesn't garner an actual response).

CJ, I agree with you 100 percent. Comcast needs to take responsibility for their actions instead of blaming it on their employees.

It doesn't take much common sense to understand that this employee was obviously lazy and incapable of making a decision on his own. What idiot would stay on hold for over an hour while sitting on a customer's couch.Did it ever occur to him to take the initiative and try a little harder to provide better customer service by maybe calling the number back or calling someone else. I guess not. This is the quality of employee you get when you pay your employee with nickels and dimes and expect him to perform miracles. So who is to blame? The lazy idiot on the couch or the cheap skate employer who pays 1/3 the average going rate of a telecom company employee. You decide.

Are you people half stupid the guy fell asleep on the job yes comcast sucks but its not thier fault the guy is sleeping, so if an auto mechanic fell asleep in your car while fixing it the company would be to blame????????????
