Redditing Reddit Advertisements

Reddit is relatively new to the whole 'generating revenue through advertisements' business model. Until the socially driven news site was acquired by Cond?ɬ© Nast Publications, the site was completely ad free. Even though the site does have ads now, until recently, they came with an interesting social-minded twist.

Every advertisement that you see on the site could be submitted to a sub-reddit on the site, at ads.reddit.com where other users could discuss and vote on the various different kinds of ads.

While this is a great idea and an easy way for the Reddit overlords to get feedback from the community and decide which ads were the least intrusive and most relevant and affective, looking at the sub-reddit shows that the idea didn't quite catch on. Not a lot of people voted or commented on the submitted ads and as a result, the feature has been suspended. While you can see the old submissions, votes, and comments, no new submissions can be made.

If you miss this feature, which I certainly do, please let them know.

Ummm... reddit had ads before it got acquired by CondeNast, it just didn't have the "reddit this ad" feature.

And I'm pretty sure you've missed the point of the ads.reddit subreddit, since it wasn't meant to have user-submitted ads -- the reddit team said it was just a place to 'reddit' ads that were on reddit, hence the low "submission" rate.
