Pimp my links: Kineda
The second site we are going to feature in the Pimp My Links series is Kineda. Kineda is a blog that focuses on entertainment, lifestyle, and pop culture and has been around for over 8 years now.
Wordpress themes
Kineda is hands down one of the best-designed blogs I have ever seen. I would love to see them release a Wordpress theme based loosely on their current design. Don't release the exact theme though, because you want to stay unique and not have a thousand other blogs out their looking exactly the same. Put a link back to your homepage in the footer and the theme will be good for thousands of links. In fact, why not release a whole bunch of themes? It's pretty obvious someone over there has some serious web design skills.
Technorati widget
Kineda is no stranger to linkbait. The A-list Bloglebrity widget, which featured Pronet Advertising as an A-list blog, was a big hit. I just ran a check of the URL through Yahoo's Site Explorer and that page alone has almost 30,000 links. I think a play off of that widget would be good for another solid linkbait campaign. For example my personal blog is only ranked as a B-list blog. That's probably not something I'm proud enough for that would make me display the button on my blog. But it does say that Technorati considers the blog in the high authority group, now that would be something I would be more proud to display. I would also like to see some different colors of the button, pink is not exactly everyone's favorite color. Another example of a very popular Technorati widget is the "How Much Is My Blog Worth", nearly 400,000 links.
Content
Unfortunately for one reason or another the Kineda domain is banned from Digg. I am not sure exactly why they are banned but as we've seen recently it happens even to the best of us. This is unfortunate because Kineda writes great content and with a few minor changes here and there it would be perfect for the Digg audience. I mean, who wouldn't love the "5 Steps to Getting the Girl of Your Dreams" post with the little Lego guys and all? Keep up the good content but consider adding bookmarking links to encourage your readers to bookmark it and make it easier for them to spread the content. Once again, use your mad design skills and put up some design tutorials, those spread like wildfire on the social sites.
Summary
Overall Kineda is a wonderful blog and there are many linkbait opportunities available to them. They already have a strong reader base and lots of great content, now it's just about figuring out how to encourage the readers to spread that content. With a few minor Social Media Optimization enhancements that should not be too much of a problem. The URL being banned from Digg is a little bit of a setback because Digg is such a great platform to spread content, but it's not the end of the world for them. There are plenty of other social media sites that can still help the content travel such as Delicious, StumbleUpon, and Reddit to name a few.

Great article as usual Neil. Here in the Philippines, Kineda's widget was highly link. Many of our well-known bloggers link to it.
Yeah, they contacted me too. I was according to the widget an A-lister. I think most think of it as a fun widget.
Happy New Year Neil.

I had never heard of them until I saw a spike in my in-bound traffic from their website.
On checking them out, I found that I was mentioned in the A-list Bloglebrity article, which did me no harm at all!
I've since stepped up to C list, by the way... ;-)

Cameron - Thanks for the pimping my link! Great review and suggestions. I'll definitely take your consideration for adding social media elements to the site in an effort to spread the content.
In the past, I've been hesitant to clutter the site with social media buttons, because I've always felt they were a bit tech-biased, and I'm not sure my audience fits the profile of the average social media site user.
Articles like my "5 Steps to Get the Girl of Your Dreams" and "Top 10 Metrosexual Man Bags" were linked by many blogs, but they didn't fair well on Digg(before the site was banned), Delicious , Shoutwire, Netscape, or Reddit.
Adding a few buttons to make it easier for those that do traffic social media sites definitely wouldn't hurt though.
I am working on a few themes that I'll be releasing in 07, so keep your eyes open for them.
Thanks again for pimping my link and the mad props on the design skills. You guys have an awesome blog and I can't wait to read about other sites in your pimp my links series! :)

Hey guys, love this series! Wondering if you are planning to start a new "category" / tag on it to put all of your reviewed sites in one place? Might be helpful if it is going to be ongoing for awhile?

Looks like I've been unbanned from Digg! I logged in today for the first time in months and submitted a story with no issues. Guess they don't leave you stuck in the black hole forever. :)
