Marketing your deals with Deals.com

Although the social media space seems to be ruled by sites like Digg, del.icio.us and Netscape, there is still room for more. Recently a site called Deals.com launched which is just like Digg, but for finding deals.

deals.com

Deals is a website that is a combination of Slickdeals and Digg. When users find cool deals and coupons they submit them to deals.com and then they vote on which deals they like the best. The more votes a specific deal has within X amount of time, the higher it appears on the front page.

The overall concept of Deals is smart. I am sure that we are going to start seeing other niche Digg-like websites pop up because of the success of Digg and more generally, websites that harness the "wisdom of the crowds". Marketers and companies will use and encourage these types of websites because it creates new avenues for them to use to help promote their products or services. For example, I can imagine more and more companies starting to create coupons for their products and submitting them to Deals.com. Because of all of these factors I think Deals is a good concept and in the future I see them taking a small chunk of the social media market.

This idea is not new.

There's already a few players. Featured on Mashable before was "dealplumber". Also, try "trezr", "dealspl.us", "dealigg" and the reddit entrance "boddit".

Josh, I agree that the concept is old, but it will take a while before the larger players catch on.

Old idea or not it certainly seems appealing, It'll be interesting to see whether any of these digg for other sectors take off

Neil: Nice writeup. I wanted to also point you to dealplumber.com, which we launched only a few months back and have been seeing steady increase in traffic, user and user's reporting commissions from sales driven by dealplumber. I believe, there is a lot that social deals sites can deliver in terms of making it much easier for a casual shopper to find deals & coupons to save a few bucks quickly, without having to spend way too much time finding deals.
