Got Crunched?
With the recent comments about Mike Arrington and his TechCrunch postings on Ning and Tello, I thought it would be appropriate to discuss what it really means to get Crunched. Well, it means that your company has perked the interest of a very influential group of Bloggers. TechCrunch is a blog that was started by Mike Arrington back in June of 2005 out of his frustration in finding information about companies that are affecting the Web 2.0 space. It has quickly grown to become a central hub where new companies can get exposure, whether they are worthy, or notably "not-worthy".
So, what does getting Crunched mean? Here are a few effects of getting Crunched.
1. Eyeballs on your website
Traffic to your website will increase drastically.
2. Exposure for your company
People will start to recognize your company name.
3. Increased buzz about your company
Bloggers will begin to write about your company.
4. Critiques about your company.
Valuable feedback will be expressed.
5. Website downtime
If you are not prepared, your website will choke.
Getting Crunched represents buzz marketing, a emerging marketing method that revolves around social networking and using it as a marketing tool. Many blogs and other social networking related websites can provide the same effects as getting Crunched. To see the growing list of websites that have been Crunched, check out the TechCrunch Index.
Update (Feb 8th, 2006): Songbird just got Crunched, their website is down!
