Getting Ranked 5 of 5
Getting and maintaining ranking is critical to your online success. As discussed in the previous four posts, the way that search engines decide how websites are ranked is decided by three main characteristics: code, content and links.
Code
Keep those URL strings clean, get all of your pages crawled and indexed, and make sure that the search engines know every page you have is unique.

Content
First off, make sure your visitors like your content. Second, make sure that the search engines think your content is relevant to your keywords and that there is enough there to make them rank you on top of competitors. Work on keyword density and don't spam keywords or you could be doing more harm than good.

Links
Take advantage of what's out there for you nowadays. Work on getting buzz if you can and leverage social networking sites to do so. If you are successful, you will get links and dramatically improve your ranking. You will also be doing your business/website a service by getting the word out.

Although it might seem daunting to work on all three elements, remember that they work synergistically to get you higher ranking. You will see a massive difference in traffic if you have all three optimized versus only one or two. Make sure that if you can, go for all of them. After all, you've spent a lot of effort on your website and depending on your website traffic can equal money (directly or indirectly).
Finally, there are a ton of additional resources out there to help you out. If you feel like you haven't gotten ranked on top and you should be, keep in mind that it takes time for your efforts to work their way into the search engines. Be patient and if you've done everything right you it will pay off.
