FeedBurner and blogbeat, making my wishes come true

Have you ever used FeedBurner and wondered where your subscribers come from or how many of them are repeat subscribers? Back in April I wrote a blog entry about my FeedBurner wish list hoping that FeedBurner would provide more analytical data related to RSS feeds. So far my wishes have not come true, but in the near future they might. According to Michael Arrington FeedBurner has just acquired blogbeat...

In a phone conversation last night, Steve Olechowski, Feedburner's COO, said that they have been looking to build or buy a web analytics product to complement their existing RSS analytics tools. Steve expects full integration of the Blogbeat service with Feedburner by Q4 of this year. At that point Feedburner customers will have the ability to see web and RSS statistics for their blogs in a single dashboard.

Currently blogbeat offers some detailed blog statistics, but there are some things I would like to see when they get integrated.

  1. An easy to use interface. FeedBurner and blogbeat are usable, but they could be even easier to understand and use. I use FeedBurner on a daily basis and I have used blogbeat, but neither of them are easy to use as Measure Map. Measure Map uses icons and messages which make things easy to understand and see.
  2. Both FeedBurner and blogbeat have dashboards, but neither of them are flexible. I want to be able to modify my dashboard to fit my needs. Google did something similar with Google Analytics, but it is still not customizable enough for me.
  3. Before FeedBurner added the "live hits" feature, the subscriber page used to tell you how many subscribers you had within the last 24 hours. I loved that feature and hope that they put it back. It sucks having to stay awake until 12:18am every night just to see feed ticker update.
  4. It would be great if referrer information on my blog and RSS subscription page were tied together. That way it would act like my FeedBurner page is part of my blog instead of a separate website. This would also allow for more statistics and information about what visitors did after they clicked through to my blog from an RSS feed.

FeedBurner may be planning on making all of these changes or none of them. Sounds like we will have to wait until the end of the year to find out.
