Ecommerce tips that make people buy
Ecommerce sites have a lot of products. This makes it very difficult to improve overall conversion however here are a couple of tips that may make improving conversion a far less daunting task:
Search - Make sure people have the option to search your site. Make it easy for them to find the products they want to buy. Make sure your search results page is easy to read and clear. Make sure the product titles and descriptions are short and to the point. If you have pictures of the products you may want to try to put a small thumbnail so that customers can spot the item they want with ease.
Comfort - Try to make potential customers comfortable with your site and therefore comfortable in making a purchase decision. If there isn't a phone number or clear indication that they can get a hold of you they might be hesitant to actually buy. Let's face it; people are still worried about making purchases online. It's your job to remove that. Testimonials and Better Business Bureau icons help with this sort of thing as well.
Pictures - Try to include a picture on each product page. When you shop, you want to see what you are buying. If you don't, you won't buy unless you are completely willing to let that money go down the drain.
Call to action - Make it easy to buy. If customers like the product, they will want to buy. If you don't make this easy, they will immediately start looking for the same product somewhere else. Closing a deal is hard enough; don't let your design hinder you. Make the buy, cart, and purchase buttons obvious and accessible.
Payment process - Make sure you make the purchasing process easy. Try not to ask them for unnecessary information. The fewer amount of fields that the customer has to fill in the better. People do not like filling in 100 fields just to buy a ten dollar product.
Navigation - Do not give the potential customer too many options. You need to steer them immediately to the product. Remember, attention span is short on the internet and if customers can't find what they want in 3 clicks or less then they will look elsewhere.
These are basic ideas that work for most but not all websites. We encourage you to at least take these ideas into account when trying to improve conversion. Good luck!
