Crazy Egg officially launches
Have you ever found it hard to figure out how to improve your website? We have been having this pain for years which is why we created Crazy Egg. We just launched Crazy Egg today. So what is Crazy Egg?
About
Crazy Egg is a tool that allows you to test anything about your website. It lets you test different types of content on your website so you can find out which version is more effective. It lets you test ad placement so you can clearly see which ads people click on and which ads they don't click on. Crazy Egg also lets you test form fields and almost any aspect of your webpage layout.
Dashboard

This is a screenshot of the Crazy Egg dashboard. We decided to test out this blog to see how Sunday visitors interact with the homepage. The test has been running for about 16 hours so far and we have had 1026 visits to the homepage and 336 clicks.
Overlay

So I clicked on the orange "view results" button on the dashboard and this is the screen it took me to. This is an overlay of this blog's homepage which shows where people clicked in a color coded fashion (blue meaning a low percentage of clicks and red meaning a high percentage of clicks). This shows that most people interact with the featured post and read on, but an interesting thing that I never knew was that people use the search feature and category links do not seem to be used much, at least on a Sunday.
List

Then, to see more information about each element on the page I clicked the "list" option on the top right. The list shows the element name, element type, number of clicks it received and the percentage of total clicks it received. The weird thing that I learned from the list is that the 9rule badge is the second most popular link on the homepage, even though it is towards bottom the of the page and below the fold.
Heatmap

Then to see the exact places that people were clicking, I clicked on the "heatmap" option. The heatmap shows a clear picture of where people click. It was interesting to see how people mainly clicked on the middle of the RSS subscribe image or how they click on the left side of the 9rules image.
How is it unique?
This test accomplished my goal of understanding how people interact with the Pronet Advertising homepage and based on this information I can tweak around the design to adjust how people interact with the site. This test just scratches the surface of Crazy Egg's true potential, here are some of the things that it can help you do:
- Track ads and see how people interact with the ads. If you have Google AdSense or Yahoo Publisher Network ads on your website you can see which ads are being clicked on and exactly where people are clicking on the ad. You can also track other ad formats such as banner ads.
- AJAX is a hot technology that you might be using on your website. Ever wonder how people interact with the nifty AJAX you have on your website? Crazy Egg can show you.
- If you have flash on your website, now you can see where people click. Crazy Egg can show you where people are clicking on your flash website.
- If you have form fields, search boxes, or even submit buttons, you can see your dropout rate. Find out how many people click on your form fields versus the amount of people that actually hit the submit button. This can tell you if you need to modify your forms to help maximize your conversion rate.
These are just some of the uses of Crazy Egg. Crazy Egg is not meant to replace analytics or eye tracking tools, but it was created to work along with these tools. So if you want to see how people interact with your website give Crazy Egg a try, you can sign up for the free version or a paid version. If anyone has any questions or comments, please feel free to write a comment, or contact us.

This is a great evolution for comportemental statistics on a web site. Bye bye all the figures and unbitable charts ! Question: is it easy to implement with a Flash developed web site?

I assume tracking of Text Link Ads is also supported when you mention "other ad formats"? You may wish to include TLA in your writeup as it's increasing in popularity amongst blogs.
I've been seeing Crazy Egg banner ads around but never knew you guys were behind it! Looks like a solid job, I'll be trying it out.

I talked a bit to them, the tool isn't apparently optimal for a full flash web site but they are working on it. But still, it might work partially.
