Banner Blindness Gets Creative
When most companies are trying to create buzz they usually ask bloggers to blog on their company or they higher a marketing firm to do it for them. Although these are not bad ways to create buzz, with a bit of creativity you can create an organic buzz around your company.
I was surfing YouTube web last week and I noticed that a company called Banner Blindness drew a picture of me.
What better way to get attention then drawing pictures of some of the top bloggers like Shoemoney and John Chow.

I think that banners are over rated. I have used a program called muvar to statistically test variables on my site and banners have not attracted any more clicks than anchored text does. I like your organic idea better than banners

I find that I may be leaning more towards Sarah's perspective.
However, there are options to different approaches. If anyone is curious and want to know how those who succeed actually do it, they can contact me at info@johndaly.tv

Neil,
This looks like a great off-beat way to capture attention. However I think a site owner should only go this caricature route if they are truly artistic enough to pull it off. Or have someone who can draw it for them.
Personally, I'm more like Matt. Put me on our area rug on a Saturday morning with my toddler, her favorite Elmo coloring book, and a box of crayons, and I'm just fine. Anything artistic beyond that gets embarrassing.
Thanks for the great post.

Lots of advertisers are getting really creative these days, like AdToll with their peel-over ads, and Kontera with their in-text ads.
GetAds.co.uk has a great list of advertisers, including lots of alternatives to banner ads.
