Abusing Sex Appeal

Sex appeal is being used so frequently in commercials that it is starting to get old. We already know that the message of this type of commercial is going to be centered on a hot chick or good looking dude, so if you want to use sex appeal and capture people's attention do something unique and unexpected.

Well, like you said, that was definitely unexpected. I loved the sound effects too.

It's over the top; however, at least the subject has something to do with the product. What about when there's no relationship between sex and the product?

Doug, I agree that it may be over the top, but I feel that's what makes the ad memorable.

As you mentioned it seems that there are a lot of companies who use sex when it has nothing to do with the product. For some, such as GoDaddy, it works and for others it does not.

Fantastic!

Along those lines, have you seen diesel.com lately? The current ad campaign is a staged hijacking of the site in which two girls strap a Diesel salesman to a bed and do naughty things to him while Diesel.com meets their demands. I'm not sure if love it or hate it. What do you guys think?

Neil Patel, January 22, 2007

Rhea, I like the site and video, it's funny and entertaining...

I don't know that this ad really uses sex appeal as such... I think it's really using irony as a comic device, parodying sex appeal.

Just curious--from what nation does this ad hail?

I.Am.In.Love.

Win won for the chick in the glasses!

Funny.
